Congratulations to Dr. Guy Benrubi, recipient of the 2016 Philip Gilbert Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The award, given each year, is reserved for a dedicated and passionate volunteer who shares Healthy Start’s vision and actively contributes to the realization of Coalition goals.
Dr. Benrubi joined the Coalition’s Board of Directors in 2013. He is an OB/GYN at UF Health Jacksonville and the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at UF College of Medicine Jacksonville. He is also a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an officer with ACOG District XII.
Dr. Benrubi has been a champion for expanding access to and utilization of long-acting reversible contraception since he joined the Board. He pushed the Coalition to adopt LARC as a focus during the October 2014 FIMR presentation. Since then, he has been an active participant in the Coalition’s LARC Discussion Group, which is working to remove barriers to these effective methods of birth control, including developing ways to improve access to postpartum LARC for Medicaid patients.
The Gilbert Award was established by the Coalition in 2006 in memory of Phil Gilbert, the founding chair of the organization and long-time Executive Vice-President of the Duval County Medical Society. The award honors individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to Healthy Start and the health of women, infants and families.
