4Me Teen Leadership Councils put on play, community health fair

The Jacksonville Housing Authority 4Me Teen Leadership Councils concluded the first weekend in June with two community events: The Victory Pointe complex TLC put on a play called “The Person Who Never Knew,” while the Brentwood Lakes complex held a community health fair.

The Leadership Councils were comprised of teens who completed the 4Meteen sex education sessions and showed potential as community leaders and peer educators. The Councils met every other week for six months, developing health-related activities for their respective communities.

The 4Me program was piloted at two JHA apartment complexes through a grant from the Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida. From November 2011-June 2012, teens and their parents at the Victory Pointe and Brentwood Lakes complexes participated in all three components — the teen education series, leadership councils and parent workshops — of the program.

Special thanks to the JHA, Ounce of Prevention and Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida for their assistance in making the program and these events a success!
