Participants of the Azalea Project had the opportunity to take part in a spring activity on May 13th. Jacque Moreno of Northeast Florida AHEC was the guest speaker. Participants also had the opportunity to meet and greet with each other and “shop” for items.

Each Azalea participant receives points throughout the year for their hard work, including enrolling in school, completing life courses at the Azalea office, getting involved in civic activities in their communities, maintaining sobriety and keeping prenatal appointments etc.  At the activity, they were able to use the points they accumulated to receive baby items, household supplies and more!

The Azalea Project is a special initiative of the Coalition that works to reduce risk-taking behavior in substance abusing pregnant and parenting women. The Project is funded through Healthy Start (for pregnant women) and the City of Jacksonville (non-pregnant women).

Volunteers for the event included: staff from NE FL Healthy Start Coalition, Shannon Denson & Lisa Read; Board Member Teleauba Revels; and community members Adrienna Jones, Gwen Green and Curtis Jones.
