CDC text program provides preconception health reminders

Having a healthy baby starts before pregnancy, especially when it comes preventing birth defects.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is launching a text program to provide women — whether they intend to get pregnant or not — with helpful tips, like how to prevent birth defects by taking folic acid and other health information. Text REMINDERS to 87000 to get messages starting the week of July 25.

Several messages will be sent each week with reminders to take 400 mcg of folic acid and other ways you can help prevent birth defects even before you are pregnant. Standard text messaging rates apply.
