Healthy Start, Jax Kids Coalition will host 5th Annual Advocacy Training

The 2013 Advocacy Training is presented by the Healthy Start Coalition and Jacksonville Kids Coalition in partnership from the Early Learning Coalition of Duval and United Way. It will be held on Friday, February 22 at the Jacksonville Marriott Hotel from 9:00am-2:00pm.

This training is held each year just prior to legislative session and aims to educate attendees on advocacy basics and equip them with strategies and tactics to advocate on behalf of children. An anticipated 75 people are scheduled to attend the training, including staff and board members from local child-serving agencies as well as local child advocates.

Joe Theissen, Senior Vice President of Programs at Voices for American Children in Washington, D.C, will be the keynote speaker and present on “Tools for Political Engagement,” sponsored by the Chartrand Foundation.

Four roundtable discussions will provide the participants with information on getting your message to the media, communicating with your legislator, and branding your message. The day will conclude with Action Planning sessions.
