Home visiting programs: a reflection

An evaluator of home visiting programs reflects on what she has learned about effective programs in the March 2012 issue of the FINE Newsletter, which shares information from the Harvard Family Research Project and other field leaders.

Anne Duggan, ScD, a Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Johns Hopkins University, has evaluated these programs for 19 years. In the article, “Service is Everything: How Home Visiting Service Delivery Impacts Family Outcomes,” she looks at service delivery as a key influence on successful outcomes.

The author concludes: “If we are to realize home visiting’s potential to improve the lives of young children and their families, influential organizations and program staff must work together to create clear, coherent service models and strong implementation systems.”

The Healthy Start Coalition is currently implementing the evidence-based home visiting program Nurse Family Partnership. Read more about home visiting programs and evaluations:
