Local Pediatrician receives prestigious award from the American Academy of Pediatrics

Dr. Jeff Goldhagen, a local pediatrician and long-standing member of the Healthy Start Coalition, received the 2011 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Job Lewis Smith Award. The award recognizes one academy member annually for long, outstanding service in community pediatrics.

Dr. Goldhagen is a professor and chief of of the Division of Community Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville.

His professional career has focused on maternal and child health and integrating academic pediatrics and public health. Recently, he has addressed children’s rights and equity by co-founding the Society for Equity in Child Health and the Equity Project and traveling nationally and internationally to advocate and educate on this issue.

The award is named for Job Lewis Smith, M.D., a founder of the AAP and a pioneer of American pediatrics. The AAP is an organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
