In November 2011, the NEFL Teen Pregnancy Task Force released “Preventing Teen Pregnancy in Northeast Florida: A Plan for Community Action” after a year of monthly meetings, reviewing best practices and selecting strategies. The Task Force had several follow-up meetings, the last occurring in January 2014. The Task Force will begin meeting again in January 2015 on a quarterly basis to continue to address the issue of teen births and teen pregnancy prevention.

On Tuesday, January 13 at 4:30pm, we invite you to attend the next Task Force meeting to discuss what else still needs to be done to improve the sexual health of adolescents in Northeast Florida. Please see below for meeting details:

  • Date: Tuesday, January 13, 2015
  • Time: 4:30pm
  • Location: Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition Conference Room, 644 Cesery Blvd. Ste. 210, Jacksonville, FL

We hope to see you at this meeting.  We will review the implementation strategies, update the action plan, hear about initiatives funded through the Task Force, discuss future funding opportunities and determine actions going forward. Please contact Erin Addington with any questions.

Can you please address the issue that some teens are advised by other teens that getting pregnant is a way to become “liberated” from their parents because of the amount of money received. A part of the educational process should deal with the financial realities of teen pregnacy as well as how this works out in the long term. Also, pregnancy is not considered as necessarily “bad” as the so-called entertainment models are constantly striving to get pregnancy. How about a film made about teens for teens called, “When It is No Longer Cute….”
