The Coalition is a non-profit organization that consists of a partnership of community organizations and consumers. It carries out its mission by assessing maternal and child health status and available services in the region to pinpoint gaps and needs.
A lead in the community effort to reduce infant mortality and improve health, the Coalition receives funding from the state and federal governments to contract with local agencies to provide Healthy Start services. The Coalition also increases community awareness of maternal and child health issues and directs resources to address specific community needs.
As a public-private partnership, the Coalition is able to implement an effective contracts and quality improvement process to ensure services are delivered effectively.
