National Infant Mortality Awareness Month

Today marks the Second Annual “Rounds at the Grounds: Baseball for Babies”, the Healthy Start Coaliton’s signature infant mortality month awareness event.

Dozens of area doctors will step up to the plate to help Healthy Start reach audiences with health strategies and practices that prevent infant mortality. Jacksonville is a state and national leader in the number of babies who die before their first birthdays.

The event is also an opportunity for the Coalition to raise match funds for a community education and awareness grant. This year, nearly $43,000 was raised to support the Coalition’s efforts! You can contribute to the campaign year-round at our donate page.

Co-sponsored by the Jacksonville Suns, Rounds at the Grounds will feature a number of celebrity participants:

  • Jacksonville Jaguars tackle and Healthy Start ambassador Eugene Monroe
  • Teammate Eben Britton will join Eugene as coach of the opposing team
  • Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller, President, Shannon Miller Lifestyle: Health and Fitness for Women, and Al Emerick, Health Physician Partners, will serve as celebrity sideline media correspondents.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors: Eugene Monroe, St. Vincent’s HealthCare, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, First Coast Oncology, Stellar Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida,DuBow Foundation, Rayonier, Shands Jacksonville, Linda Asay and Bob Spaeth, Sandy Cook, Pam Paul, A Friend of Healthy Start, Bob & Rosie Stubbs, Paul Bosland, William and Gayle Gower and Walter and Garcia Drew.
