The Northeast Florida Health Start Coalition hosted its first pregnancy basics training yesterday, held in partnership with the Jacksonville Children’s Commission.
Over 50 people attended the training, held for paraprofessionals and non-health professionals who provide home visiting and related support services to pregnant women through Healthy Start, Healthy Families, Early Head Start and other community programs. Attendees enjoyed breakfast while learning how to counsel expectant clients about pregnancy, breastfeeding and the importance of the last few weeks of pregnancy.
The training also included a lively game of “Pregnancy Jeopardy,” which quizzed participants on some of the material presented at the event. Attendees left with a toolkit of resources to use during home visits, as well as a certificate of completion.
