Rounds at the Grounds 2013 Recap

The 2013 Rounds at the Grounds “The Beginning of an Era” charity softball game hit a home run this year as doctors, nurses and former Jaguars from the “Cinderella Season” shared the field to raise awareness for infant mortality.

Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Lineman Eugene Monroe returned as host and top sponsor, and was joined at the game by his wife Nureya and daughter Farah Joy.

Dr. Bob Harmon of the Duval County Medical Society served as team captain for the Make a Noise! team (white) while Dr. Scot Ackerman with First Coast Oncology was team captain for the Make a Difference! team (blue). The Make a Difference! blue team emerged victorious! The final score was 1-0.

First Coast New Sports Anchor Chris Porter served as referee for the game. Color commentary for the game was provided by former Jaguars announcer Cole Pepper; WJXT Channel 4 Morning Show Anchor and Healthy Start Coalition Board member Melanie Lawson; and TV Spokesman Al Emerick.

This year’s theme “The Beginning of an Era,” celebrated the great work of the Coalition over the past 20 years. This year, the Coalition raised $36,000 to continue community education and awareness programs, including the Make a Noise! Make a Difference! intervention and the Make a Difference! Leadership Academy. Up to $40,000 of the money raised from Rounds at the Grounds is generously matched by the Chartrand Foundation.

Doctors, families, sponsors, Healthy Start Board members, volunteers, staff and donors enjoyed an Appreciation Celebration and autograph signing by the Jaguars following the competition, along with a great game of baseball between the Jacksonville Suns and Mississippi Braves.
