October is National SIDS Awareness Month. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexplained Infant Deaths (SUIDs) are the leading cause of death among infants under the age of one. In Northeast Florida 16.5 percent of all infant deaths are attributed to SUIDS.
Practicing safe sleep tips, such as avoiding crib bumpers and placing your baby on its back to sleep, can help prevent SIDS. The Eastern Virginia Medical School created this video to educate parents and health providers about SIDS and proper safe sleep practices.
