Congratulations to former Coalition Board member Dr. Thomas Chiu for being a recipient of a prestigious certificate of appreciation from the Florida Medical Association.

Dr. Chiu recently stepped down as chair of pediatrics at the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville, but remains on faculty and was appointed as medical director of external affairs for pediatrics. He serves as the North Central Regional Medical Director with the State of Florida Children’s Medical Services and is Board Certified in Pediatrics as well as in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine.

In January, Dr. Chiu received the Coalition’s 2012 Philip H. Gilbert Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The award, given each January, is reserved for a dedicated and passionate volunteer who shares Healthy Start’s vision and actively contributes to the realization of Coalition goals.

Dr. Chiu was nominated for the certificate of appreciation by the Duval County Medical Society. He will receive the award in during an October meeting of the medical association’s board of directors.
