New car seat guidelines have got into effect as of January 2014 regarding car-seat weight limits.
Car seat guidelines now indicate parents should limit a child’s weight for use with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) to 65 pounds minus the weight of the seat. Once children reach the limit, parents should secure the car seat with the seat belt instead of using LATCH.
Consumer Reports revised their car seat ratings based on these changes to the law.
