New federal law makes stillbirth prevention a prenatal priority

President Biden recently enacted the Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act of 2024, a bipartisan effort that has the potential to save 6,000 babies in the U.S. annually. The act amends Title V of the Social Security Act to include stillbirth prevention, addressing a significant gap that has existed since Title V Block Grant was put in place nearly 100 years ago. The new law will provide increased funding for maternal and child health initiatives across the county, allowing states to use these dollars for stillbirth prevention efforts and research.
