It took more than a little rain to dampen the spirits of the doctors and nurses who turned out for Rounds at the Grounds III on August 19th. Although weather conditions prevented them from playing on the field, the Black and Gold Teams faced off in a series of indoor games, including a cheerleading competition led by the ROAR of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wolfson Water Bottle Bowling, and a Hit the Bucket Softball Toss.
Duval Health Department Director Dr. Bob Harmon captained the Gold Team while Betty Gonzalez, a nurse with UF Shands Women’s Services, led the Black Team. Once again, the Gold Team emerged the victor winning two of out three competitions thanks to superior coaching by Rochelle “Mama Pot Roast” Knighton, mother of Jacksonville Jaguar Terrence Knighton. First Coast News Sports Anchor Chris Porter served as referee for the spirited games.
Doctors, families, sponsors, Healthy Start Board members, volunteers, staff, donors and exhibitors enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers following the competition, along with a great game of baseball between the Jacksonville Suns and Birmingham Barons! Thank you to our headline sponsor, #75 Jacksonville Jaguar Eugene Monroe, and the Jacksonville Suns.
Special thanks to our Back-to-School exhibitors, The Players Advocacy Center at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Chartwell School Food Service, the Early Learning Coalition and Florida KidCare. Mark your calendars for Rounds at the Grounds IV on Sunday, September 1, 2013! Rain or shine its Baseball for Babies!
