On Friday November 16th, the Baker County Health Department and the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition will be hosting a Safe Sleep Lunch and Learn from 12-1pm.
Dr. Bruce McIntosh, a board certified Jacksonville pediatrician with 42 years of experience, will be speaking at the event. In addition to his practice at the Baker County Health Department, he has been the Medical Director of the Jacksonville Child Protection Team since 1989. He is also certified in child abuse pediatrics and he has a special interest in child injury prevention.
In Baker County, the infant mortality rate is approximately three times higher than the state average. About 40 percent of infant deaths in Baker County are sleeping related deaths, compared to the average of 12 percent in Northeast Florida.
The Lunch and Learn will serve to educate health care providers and other area professionals that work with families with young children about safe sleep practices. The goal is to provide compelling information that will assist us to comprehensively and compassionately encourage families to practice infant safe sleep methods.
Please RSVP to Sue Murphy by November 10th if you are planning to join us for this event as lunch will be provided.
